Bills Discuss Von Miller’s Status Following Arrest Warrant Is Issued
After Dallas media sites revealed that edge rusher Von Miller had an arrest warrant out for him due to a claim that he had abused his pregnant girlfriend, the Buffalo Bills released a statement about him.
Miller’s status did not change immediately, according to the Bills.
WFAA reported on November 30 that Miller was charged with beating his girlfriend at their Dallas home this week, citing many police sources and officials.
“Dallas police officials confirmed that Miller, a 34-year-old DeSoto native and Buffalo Bills player, has a warrant out for a charge of assaulting a pregnant person,” the story stated.
In a statement issued early on Thursday, the Bills stated that they were aware of the accusations and were investigating the matter. The Bills made no mention of Miller’s standing with the team, despite some calls for the franchise to fire him right now.
“We learned about an incident involving Von Miller this morning,” the statement said, citing NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero on X. “At this time, we won’t be making any more comments while we gather more information.”
Report Provides Specifics Regarding Von Miller Charges
Although “a charge of assaulting a pregnant person is a third-degree felony in Texas,” according to the WFAA story, Miller had not been taken into custody as of 11 a.m. ET on Thursday.
According to the report, about 11 a.m. on Wednesday, police were called to a “major disturbance” following claims that a fight had become physical.
Miller allegedly assaulted the woman after they got into a fight, according to what the police learned. The story stated that Miller’s long-term girlfriend is the accused victim, as confirmed by multiple police sources who spoke with WFAA.
Von Miller’s warrant was verified by the Dallas Police Department; WFAA in Dallas first reported the news.
Miller reportedly left the scene before police could reach, and the claimed victim received on-site treatment for minor wounds rather than being sent to a hospital, according to the complaint.
Miller has previously been the subject of an investigation. According to the WFAA story, police in Colorado also conducted an investigation against the All-Pro edge rusher in 2021; however, the district attorney for the 18th Judicial District chose not to press charges. According to WFAA, Miller continued to play for the Denver Broncos the next season after the investigation’s specifics were kept under wraps.
Bills Supported the Play by Von Miller
Miller’s production has significantly decreased following his recovery from an ACL tear, and the Bills have recently received requests to bench him. In his eight games this season, Miller has only made two tackles and one quarterback hit, dropping down the team’s defensive line rotation.
Eric Washington, the defensive line coach and associate head coach for the Bills, supported Miller, pointing out that despite his difficulties, he was still displaying moments of excellent performance.
“I observe a resolute veteran laboring every day under conditions that none of us could possibly relate to… According to SI.com, Washington stated, “I see a veteran that has shown a lot of toughness, mental toughness, a lot of heart, a lot of leadership, and really a lot of sacrifice.” “Von didn’t wait until he was in a position to do what he normally does best.”
