Tiger Woods says he couldn’t sleep after Donald Trump assassination attempt, and that was “all we saw” on the flight
Tiger Woods has revealed he arrived at Royal Troon after a sleepless flight following the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
The 15-time major champion was flying from Florida to Scotland on Saturday night for the 152nd British Open Championship at Royal Troon later this week when the former president was shot. The 48-year-old admitted he was not as fresh as he would have liked in his first training session on Sunday as he was preoccupied with covering the incident rather than resting during the Atlantic flight.
“I didn’t achieve much because I wasn’t in the right frame of mind,” Woods told BBC Sport on Tuesday.
\’It was a long night [because of the assassination attempt] and that\’s all we watched the entire time on the way over here.

A barrage of rifle rounds rained down shortly after the former president got up to speak on Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, wounding Trump in the ear and killing retired fire chief Corey Comperatore. Two other supporters were seriously wounded by stray bullets during the assassination attempt.
Trump was repeatedly pictured shaking his bloody fist while surrounded by Secret Service agents. He was taken to a safe location a short time later.
Woods has had little involvement in politics throughout his career and has preferred to stay out of it publicly, but acknowledged in 2018 during Trump’s presidency that he had known the former president for several years before he took office. “I’ve known Donald for a few years now, we’ve played golf together. We had dinner together. I knew him before he was president and certainly during his presidency,” Woods told New York Times reporter John Branch. At the time, he was facing new pressure over his relationship with Trump in light of the Republican candidate’s immigration policies.
