The future is bright for Toto Wolff’s Mercedes in Formula 1 after a disappointing campaign.

It has not been a good season for Mercedes and Toto Wolff’s future at the team is uncertain.

On the Unlapped Podcast, journalist Lawrence Edmondson shared what he heard about the 51-year-old’s situation.
Mercedes have long been at the top of Formula 1 but have finally ended the season without a win for the first time since 2011.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are one of the strongest driver combinations on the grid, but they don’t have a car to compete with Red Bull.

Max Verstappen was unstoppable again this year, setting a new record.

The team took a wrong turn in their development in 2023 and ended up playing catch-up.

Russell needs two very strong results to move up to eighth in the drivers’ standings, while Sergio Perez’s Hamilton looks set to take second behind Verstappen.

Some fans see team principal Toto Wolff’s future at Mercedes as unsurprising given the disappointing nature of 2023.
He also said he would join Jim Ratcliffe’s bid to buy shares in Manchester United.

Whether that means he has lost interest in F1 is another matter.
The journalist gives news about Wolff’s future at Mercedes.

Commenting on the Austrian captain’s dedication to the team, Edmondson said: “Things are getting a little bit better, but there are a few key things about this car, mainly the chassis design, the way the suspension is set up… like you can’t change it .

“They couldn’t change and they really wanted to change.
“The real test comes next year and you know what, I think I will be treated very well.
I have heard from some journalists who are frustrated with their work and the lack of results this year.

“Some people are questioning his commitment to Toto Wolff and Mercedes and his desire to stay there for the long term and put things right.

“I’ve heard that it does, but the fact that they’re being asked those questions, the fact that they’re not producing enough results to justify those questions, it’s not really where it needs to be.”

Wolff does not appear to be one to give up on his future at Mercedes after a poor season.
Martin Brundle described the Brazilian team as “hard to watch”, but there were positives.

Lewis Hamilton’s consistency has been on display throughout the season and he achieved his best result behind the Red Bulls in the rare car that was second fastest on the grid.
Russell is hoping for a positive season in 2024 to avoid questions about his future, but recently signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until next year.

Mercedes has proven in the past that it can build a championship car.
Now is the time to close the gap on Red Bull this winter and put that experience into practice.
