Max Verstappen says he will stop at nothing to help team-mate Sergio Perez stop Lewis Hamilton in the race for second in the championship.
Red Bull have admitted there is “zero” chance of Sergio Perez helping Max Verstappen at the Las Vegas GP.
Max Verstappen says he will stop at nothing to help team-mate Sergio Perez stop Lewis Hamilton in the race for second in the championship.
But the Red Bull boss believes the Mexican won’t need any help to secure second place in the drivers’ standings at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
This weekend, two championship wins have already tied for the team awards.
Red Bull have never been more dominant this season.
They have never seen their drivers finish first and second in the standings. Horner really wants Perez to achieve that in 2023.
In fact, a 33-year-old should have picked it up a long time ago.
The RB19 is the fastest car on the grid and the fact that Perez has gone so far shows how tough he has been against Verstappen this year.
But he now leads Lewis Hamilton by 32 points going into the final two rounds of the season.
While still mathematically possible, the Mercedes driver is unlikely to close the gap, so Perez is expected to make it official in Sin City.
Hamilton needs to beat Perez by seven points to keep his slim hopes alive.
Verstappen, meanwhile, has nothing left to do but add wins to his career, which at the age of 26 has already passed half a century.
But that doesn’t mean he’ll step up to help Perez hit the road.
Asked how likely that was to happen this weekend in Las Vegas, team boss Horner said: “I’d say between zero and one.”
