Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso disagree over divisive F1 topic after Las Vegas GP
The Las Vegas Grand Prix gave fans some exciting races, but Fernando Alonso was one of the drivers who didn’t have much fun on the track.
Fernando Alonso was more critical of the street circuit at the Las Vegas Grand Prix than Lewis Hamilton after the race.
The circuit has been rebuilt for a fascinating new event on the Formula 1 calendar. Technically, the 6.2 km circuit was completed using the streets of Paradise, Nevada, including the famous Las Vegas Strip.
The decision to hold the race at night provided a beautiful backdrop for the action on the track, with the skyline fully illuminated. The race itself was exciting too, helped by a mixed grid and a real battle for victory, although Max Verstappen won again in the end.
It was less successful for Alonso, who started 9th and scored twice. The Spaniard later said he was not a fan of this round.
“Driving 360 kilometers per hour on this road is no fun,” the Aston Martin driver told reporters. “The show may look good on the outside, but these cars are not designed for cornering at 80km/h.
“They will go to Suzuka, Barcelona and Silverstone to maximize their potential, where we will have to balance the schedule with the championship. That’s what we do, but I don’t think it’s the only way. We also need to maintain the traditional races where Formula 1 cars can shine.”
Like Alonso, Hamilton had a tough day at the office. He lost several positions in the first fight and that put him behind significantly. And the actions of the Benz driver caught a hole and he turned again.
In the end, the seven-time world champion finished seventh. He scored only a few points as Ferrari finished second in the Constructors’ Championship.
But despite the poor result, Hamilton approached the track in a very different way to his former McLaren team-mate.
He said: “I’m very happy that I played well and I’m very happy that the game went well.” “I don’t know how you saw it, but there was still a lot of work to do.
It was like Baku, but better. “I had no idea the track would be this good, but the more laps I did, the more I enjoyed the race.
Many great opportunities were taken. “It’s all about the show, looking at the weekend negatively. Blah blah blah, I guess Vegas proved them wrong.
