QB Brock Purdy explained his approach to game prep for the Seattle Seahawks on a short week.
Brock Purdy prepares for his third start. Seattle Seahawks
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is 2-0 against the Seattle Seahawks after facing them once in Week 15 of the 2022 season and again on Wild Card Weekend.
As he prepares for Thursday’s Thanksgiving game at Lumen Field, the second-year linebacker looks at the 2023 edition of the Seahawks as a new opponent and puts two matchups with Seattle behind him.
“This year is definitely a new year. This game is a little different. The staff is a little different,” Purdy said. “Everything is affecting him because there are people he hasn’t spoken to yet. It sure looks different. That’s how I see it and it’s true.
“I don’t think we beat them too much because they are a good team. not quite, not exactly. It’s a new game, a new team and that’s how we approach it.”
One of the notable new contributors Purdy and the 49ers offense will have to contend with is first-round quarterback Devon Witherspoon. He had an impressive performance in his rookie season, totaling 52 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble, an interception for a touchdown and 13 passes defensed.
“He is a good player. He does everything,” coach Kyle Shanahan said. “When you study the run game, you see him a lot. You will see a lot in the first and second reading.
If you go to the third time and look at the messages, you can see a lot of them. It affects every aspect of the game. “He is a very good footballer and very talented.”
What the second-year quarterback will take away from his previous visit to Seattle is the experience of playing in a live stadium full of Seahawks fans. “It’s a great environment, and it’s a hostile environment.
So being data-aware, working ahead, speaking clearly as a group, being on time, breaking the pack, we’re like, ‘Everybody’s on the right page. Click points and all that ” Purdy said. “It’s really important, especially when you’re in an environment like this,” he said.
There are so many easy ways to have fun. And it’s clear that this crowd will do everything they can to lift us out of mediocrity. This is one of those games where every play counts.
Everyone needs to pay attention to the little details. Otherwise, you’ll make mistakes and it won’t be pretty.”
“It’s really worth it. I mean, there were some really loud places, but Seattle was always the loudest, even if it wasn’t a tie,” Shanahan said.
You can always tell people how tough it is, but they don’t know until they go there and see it. He knows what we’re talking about. I don’t need to emphasize its importance to him. “
