Haas boss Guenther Steiner set for unusual new role away from F1 after Netflix success
Formula 1’s rapid upturn in popularity is much thanks to the hit Netflix series Drive to Survive, and now Haas team boss Guenther Steiner is involved in developing another show.
If you loved Drive to Survive, then you’ll love… The Office F1?Haas team principal Guenther Steiner is set to become a producer on a new “single-camera workplace comedy” show in the United States. Steiner, 61, has grown to be a fan favourite on Netflix’s acclaimed Formula 1 series, Drive to Survive, with the Italian-American’s X-rated moments a highlight of the show.
Now, according to Deadline, Steiner is in talks to be involved in a comedy show which remains in the early stages of development but hopes to capitalise on the increased buzz around F1 in recent years. The show – which will be fictional – is set to focus on a team boss based on the charismatic 61-year-old, although the specific sport hasn’t been confirmed.Giant US broadcaster CBS is helming the project, with a studio yet to be attached. Steiner will hope for the show to be as successful as his own on-screen career has been since Drive to Survive launched in 2019.

Speaking to the Independent in March, the Haas boss claimed that what fans get to see is his true persona and the portrayal is authentic. “I just do my job and if they film it all that’s fine,” Steiner explained. “It’s all very transparent. We sometimes make a meal of things but very rarely. It’s real – and we can do that because our owner [Gene Haas] lets us do it. I think the fact he’s American means he’s more open. I think people like the honesty too.”
Unfortunately for Steiner, this season has been a miserable one. Ahead of the final Grand Prix of the 2023 campaign, which takes place in Abu Dhabi this Sunday, American-based team Haas sit rock bottom of the F1 constructors’ championship.
