JUST IN: Browns top cornerback Denzel Ward to miss Sunday’s game against Denver with shoulder injury
Ward missed his third straight practice on Friday, and coach Kevin Stefanski said the 26-year-old Ward will sit against the Broncos.
BEREA, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns will be without Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward on Sunday against Denver due to a shoulder injury.
Coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Ward, a 26-year-old who is playing a fantastic season for the league’s best defense, will sit against the Broncos (5-5) after he missed his third consecutive practice on Friday.
Stefanski declined to predict the length of time Ward, who was hurt during the team’s victory over Pittsburgh last weekend, may be out. Stefanski was unsure of the precise play in which Ward sustained his injuries.
Cleveland’s secondary, which has been battling with many injuries over the last two weeks, is under additional strain because of Ward’s absence.
The Browns have other alternatives at the corners, but they will probably start Martin Emerson Jr. and Greg Newsome II there with Ward out of the lineup.
Juan Thornhill, the starting safety, is classified as questionable after missing two games due to a calf issue. He returned to practice this week.
Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin was also ruled out by Stefanski due to a concussion.
Anthony Walker Jr., the captain and starting linebacker, is doubtful due to a hamstring injury he suffered last week.
