Max Verstappen blames “slow” Lewis Hamilton as Abu Dhabi GP antics annoy Sky F1 pundit
Max Verstappen hit back at criticism of his pit stops during practice for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, accusing his Formula One rivals of being “slow and slow”.
FP2 at the Yas Marina circuit saw a much disrupted session with two red flags causing over half an hour to be lost. The first stop was particularly long after Carlos Sainz lost control of his Ferrari and crashed into a barrier. When the session finally resumed, Verstappen complained on the radio about cars pushing in at the end of the pit lane. And so, after a second, shorter pause, he seemed to make it his personal mission not to let it happen again. Television cameras showed the Dutchman flying past George Russell at the end of the pit lane before having to brake sharply to avoid hitting Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion was in no hurry to move to the left to let his rival

Then Verstappen passed and Pierre Gasly blocked again. Once he was around the Alps, he roared onto the track. The incident caught the attention of the spectators and the Red Bull competitor was asked about it after the session. He did not apologize and accused the competitors of being too slow. andquot;I mean they have to move,andquot; he said. andquot;They all drive slowly and I want to get out because we have limited time and they only drive in the middle. Then when I tried to pass, they tried to push me against the wall. So yeah… a bit silly.andquot;
Scenes involving Verstappen on pit road were shown live on sports base.co.uk. Commentator David Croft watched both the pitting scene after the first red flag and the moment Verstappen flew past his rivals after the second and was left unimpressed by both. andquot;Ah yes, lovely, well don, groaned Verstappen on the radio as Alex Alboni pitted, the immediate response was to laugh and hit back. says the man who stopped at the end of the pit lane in Singapore for literally 12 seconds! Come on.
And then, after seeing Verstappen muscle his way to the pit lane, Croft criticized his impatience. He said on the air: andquot;Something and#039;is a bit cheeky to be honest. Now he is trying to overtake Pierre Gasly. Max, calm down. No need, I think. It’s just stupid, I don’t see the need for it.
Verstappen was third fastest overall, with all the cars driving far less than they would have hoped. Charles Leclerc topped the Ferrari papers, while Lando Norris separated Leclerc from Verstappen with a solid lap in the McLaren.
