Veteran center fielder for the Red Sox is “expected to retire.”
Jackie Bradley Jr., a veteran center fielder for the Red Sox, is “expected to retire,” according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
The 33-year-old South Carolina native was originally selected by the Red Sox 40th overall in the 2011 MLB Draft.
With the Red Sox in center field in 2018, Bradley was awarded a Gold Glove. In 2016, he was a Boston All-Star. In addition, he was named the 2018 ALCS MVP after he hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and one double against the Astros, scoring nine runs. As Boston won the Series in five games, he had four walks and a.400 on-base percentage.
Bradley batted.236 in 964 games (3,571 plate appearances) with a.315 on-base percentage,.404 slugging percentage,.719 OPS, 101 home runs, 181 doubles, 24 triples, and 62 stolen bases across eight seasons with the Red Sox (2013–20, ’22). His finest season was in 2016, when he hit.267 in 144 games (535 plate appearances) with a.349 on-base percentage, a.486 slugging percentage, a.835 OPS, 26 home runs, 30 doubles, seven triples, 94 runs, and 87 RBIs.
With 109 home runs, 204 doubles, and 27 triples in 11 seasons with Boston, Milwaukee, Kansas City, and Toronto, Bradley’s line read.225/.303/.381/.684. In 7,996 ⅔ career innings played in center field, he has 61 defensive runs saved. He posted 78 defensive runs saved in 9,539 ⅓ innings in all three outfield positions.
He was added to the Royals’ 2023 Opening Day roster after signing a minor league contract with them in the offseason. However, he had difficulties, and on June 12, Kansas City assigned him to a task.
Prior to the 2021 season, Bradley agreed to a two-year, $24 million contract with the Brewers. On December 2, 2022, Milwaukee sent him back to Boston in exchange for Hunter Renfroe. Along with Bradley, Boston also received Alex Binelas and David Hamilton in the trade.
