3-Time Pro Bowl Edge Named Bargain Free Agent Fit for Vikings
As the NFL season nears its final stretch, teams vying for a spot in the playoffs, like the Minnesota Vikings, might be thinking about adding players later in the season to give them an extra boost.
Twelve weeks into the 2023 season, there are not many players available for free, but there are still a few players who can make significant contributions. Melvin Ingram, an edge rusher who can offer depth at a premium position, is one of them.
On Saturday, November 25, Ryan Fowler of Bleacher Report presented Ingram as a top bargain signing for Minnesota.
Melvin Ingram, who was selected in the first round more than ten years ago, “could be an excellent addition to round an edge rotation,” according to Fowler. Although he has played many different roles as the “spinner” throughout his career, keeping an ear on passing downs could give a club a great value alternative. When the playoffs roll around, pushing the pocket will still be crucial, and whether or not Ingram manages to get to the quarterback, his presence will at the very least make opposing offenses take notice.
Melvin Ingram Tallied 6 Sacks with Dolphins Last Season
Since his heyday with the Los Angeles Chargers, where he was selected to three straight Pro Bowls from 2017 to 2019, Ingram has been all over the NFL.
The pass-rusher recorded two sacks the previous season in between stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs, and six sacks with the Miami Dolphins last season. Over the course of his 11-year career, Ingram has recorded 57 sacks, 16 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions, and 2 defensive touchdowns, according to Pro Football Reference.
Ingram signed a $4 million, one-year contract to play for Miami last season. As of Saturday, the Vikings had approximately $7.5 million in salary cap room available.
