Browns Urged to Reunite With Fan-Favorite WR for Playoff Run
The veteran pass-catcher Jarvis Landry is still without a team and has been mentioned as a possible late-season addition by the Cleveland Browns, who are hoping to make a postseason push.
Landry’s career had a difficult turn in 2022 after the Browns released him. After that, he signed a one-year contract with the Saints of his birth, but he only played in nine games. Due to injury, Landry was only able to catch 25 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown. This offseason, New Orleans decided against bringing the 30-year-old receiver back.
The Browns were pitched as a potential destination for Landry by Bleacher Report.
“You can never have enough talents on the perimeter who understand how to separate. Soon-to-be 31 years old, Jarvis Landry may not possess the breakaway burst he showcased out of LSU years ago, however, three 1,000-yard seasons and 38 trips to the end zone showcases a player that could produce immediately,” Bleacher Report’s Ryan Fowler wrote on November 25. “By no means would he be expected to serve as a high-volume target, but he’d immediately provide a friendly set of hands within any offensive attack.”
The Kansas City Chiefs were also pegged as a potential home for Landry.
Jarvis Landry Helped Changed Culture With Browns
It wouldn’t hurt the Browns to have an experienced, trustworthy set of hands that rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson can look to. Furthermore, Landry would be a cheap addition at this time in the season that might strengthen Cleveland’s attractive receiving group.
Landry may make a good addition to the changing area as well. When he came to Cleveland in 2018 by trade, he contributed to changing the city’s culture, and several of his old teammates there would gladly welcome him back. Moreover, it seems that he departed amicably.
“Jarvis Landry’s 2018 trade was a pivotal moment for our team,” announced Browns general manager Andrew Berry following Landy’s release. “Jarvis’s fierce competition and on-field performance speak for themselves, but his leadership and team-first mentality had an enduring effect on our culture even after he was let go. These decisions are always difficult, but we wish Jarvis well and we look forward to the day when he returns as a storied Browns alumnus.”
Amari Cooper Carrying the Receiving Load for Browns
Amari Cooper has been the Browns’ main pass-catcher this season. This season, Cooper has 45 catches for 749 yards and two scores. Elijah Moore, a recent addition, has also produced well, hauling in 40 catches for 374 yards.
But the output behind the Browns’ top two receivers has been little. This season, Cedric Tillman, Marquise Goodwin, and David Bell have combined for 10 catches for 53 yards. During the trade deadline, the Browns also sent Donovan Peoples-Jones to the Detroit Lions.
Cooper is aware that he and the other receivers will need to step up to support Thompson-Robinson now that Deshaun Watson is out for the season.
On Friday, November 24, Cooper stated, “Obviously, it’s very unfortunate for Deshaun to be out this season.” It’s awful. His desire to play is really strong. He is quite eager to be here. He longs to spend time with us. Football is the greatest team sport because of this awful thing. We will need to band together since we all have his back. In the end, it merely presents a test and a chance for us to evaluate our level of teamwork. I like our prospects.
With a chance to improve to 8-3 on Sunday, the Browns take on the Denver Broncos. For the road game, Cleveland is a small 1.5-point underdog.
