Deion Sanders suffers setback as key college prospect decommits from Colorado
Deion Sanders is having a recruiting nightmare, with another top prospect de-committing from his Colorado Buffaloes football program after their season derailed
In a devastating setback to the college football program, four-star quarterback Antwann Hill Jr. of the Class of 2025 shockingly announced his decommitment from Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes.
After opting to reclassify for 2024, the 6-foot-5, 220-pound football talent from Warner Robins Houston County High in Georgia has renounced his promise to Colorado. Hill continued in a statement on ON3, “After a long talk with my family, I’m reclassifying anymore and would like to reopen my recruitment.”
Only one month has passed since Hill made his commitment to Boulder, Colorado’s Coach Prime and his football program. Hill even encouraged cornerback Kam Mikell to commit to the school only on Thursday. Additionally, he has donned a t-shirt featuring CU quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
As reported by USA Today, Hill received numerous offers to play college football from twelve different colleges, including Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Miami. It’s the second elite recruit to turn around Sanders and the Buffaloes in a brief period of time.
After an impressive start to the season, five-star wide receiver Winston Watkins Jr. also withdrew his verbal commitment to CU, causing the team to stumble across the finish line in 2023 with a 4-8 record. Sanders expressed regret to the supporters following their season-ending 34-31 loss to Arizona.
“They’ve been supporting the heck out of us and they’ve been showing up and showing out − another sellout crowd that ended in disappointment,” the renowned cornerback of the NFL stated. “Our proximity is immense. I informed the team as much. However, thus far. We really don’t know how to win yet, plain and simple.”
Regarding squad changes made via the transfer site, he continued, saying, “We want to win now, right? I don’t mind putting them high school kids in the microwave and letting them warm up a little bit, but you gotta understand what you really get out of that.”
Shedeur, the son of head coach Sanders, has decided not to enter the 2024 NFL Draft, despite early fanfare. Shedeur would certainly fall into the second round despite being one of the most marketable collegiate athletes in the US since he would be behind several quarterbacks.
The Sanders family appears to be aiming for 2025, which would allow Colorado to have Shedeur as a starter for one more season before having to bring in a new talent.
Shilo, Sanders’ other kid, is probably going to declare in 2025 as well. According to Sanders, “They’re going to come out at the same time… next year,” during an interview with Dan Patrick. “They’re not trying to leave Daddy this year, by the way.”
