Vikings Linked to Tom Brady Before Josh Dobbs Trade: Insider
“You wouldn’t believe some of the things on my cell phone I’ve received,” Minnesota Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell remarked in shock following the loss of Kirk Cousins to a season-ending Achilles injury.
Josh Dobbs, a former quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, was selected by the Vikings to be the team’s offensive coordinator for the remainder of the 2023 season in the two days before the trade deadline on October 31.
However, Scott Zolak, a former quarterback with the New England Patriots, claims that O’Connell was given names, including Tom Brady.
On Monday, November 20, Zolak, co-host of “Zolak & Bertrand Show,” stated that Brady had been contacted by the Vikings. It seems sense for Minnesota to make a call given Brady’s connections to O’Connell and his Minnesotan heritage.
But earlier in the interview, Zolak reiterated that “Brady is done” and that he will not be coming out of retirement at 46, putting an end to what many Minnesotans still consider to be a pipe dream.
Tom Brady’s Links to the Vikings and Minnesota
Brady disclosed his Minnesota roots as the 2018 Super Bowl approached, mentioning that his mother is from Browerville, a small hamlet two hours northwest of the Twin Cities metro area. The game was held at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Brady even went to the extent of referring to himself as “half-Minnesotan,” having spent summers and some of his “greatest memories” as a boy with his grandparents in Browerville.
“I enjoy returning here. Here, I have a large family. It’s an excellent state. Brady reminisced about milking cows and catching sunfish off his grandparents’ boat and fried them for dinner, saying, “It’s pretty unbelievable to actually be playing here,” according to Yahoo Sports.
The quarterback, who has won seven Super Bowls, is also connected to the Vikings franchise.
In 2008, he happened to run across O’Connell, Brady’s backup. Brian Flores, the defensive coordinator, also worked in the same building as Brady for ten years. He was most famous for calling defensive plays during the Patriots’ 2019 Super Bowl victory.
