Wolff has no doubt Hamilton can be champion again despite second win-less season
Lewis Hamilton will be ready to compete for the world championship again once Mercedes give him a competitive car, team principal Toto Wolff believes.
Despite Hamilton finishing the season without winning a race for the second straight year, he stated his faith in the team’s star driver is unwavering. Wolff remarked that he had a “bad weekend” and finished ninth in the season’s last race.
Since the start of 2022, when the technical regulations for Formula 1 were changed, Mercedes has only won one race. Wolff is still of the opinion, nevertheless, that Hamilton is prepared to challenge for a world championship crown, setting a new record, should the chance present itself.
According to Lewis, he had a difficult weekend: Fact, according to Wolff. And in my opinion, that has no bearing on the fact that he is the world’s best driver.
I have no doubt that he will be competing for a world championship if we are able to give him a car.
The Mercedes drivers have expressed that they were not very confident in the team’s car this year; they plan to fix this by designing a completely new car for 2024.
Wolff remarked, “It’s evident that you are never at ease with an F1 car like we have now.” “You experience both good and horrible weekends.
However, the true Lewis always emerges at the finish when we witness him putting someone in front of his target and realizing that the race was about winning. In my opinion, all we need to do is give him a car.
George Russell had one of his best weekends of the year and finished on the podium for just the second time this year, while Hamilton labored to ninth position and failed to qualify for the third round. Russell outran Lando Norris, who was held up by a late pit stop, and finished close enough to Sergio Perez to get a post-race penalty, which earned Wolff praise for his effort.
Given Ferrari’s results in the last three races, we entered this weekend a little bit behind. And for whatever reason, it’s challenging to get the car in a desirable position. You seen that with Lewis and Carlos [Sainz Jr.], who were both absent this past weekend.
“Then you have the two guys fighting in the front, and I think George’s drive today was impeccable, also in managing the gaps at the end.”
