Browns Starter Backs Joe Flacco as QB Decision Looms
Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s injury has left the Cleveland Browns without a starting quarterback for the first time this season, which may force Joe Flacco to make his debut appearance as quarterback.
Running back Jerome Ford would be pleased with the transfer if it materializes.
On Monday, November 27, Ford remarked, “Obviously, having a guy like Joe Flacco is comforting.” “We’re just kind of looking forward to what he can do to help the team and how we can help him and develop a relationship, with everything that he’s accomplished, being in the same meeting room and on the same team as Joe.”
Ford also discusses Flacco’s contributions as an experienced locker room leader. PJ Walker is a veteran quarterback, and Thompson-Robinson is a rookie, so adding a passer with 180 career starts to the mix is a big addition.
3,881 of 6,299 throws (61.6%) completed by Flacco in his career have resulted in 232 touchdowns and 147 interceptions. As a starter, he has amassed a 99-81 (.550) record; in the postseason, he is 10-5. Along with the Baltimore Ravens, he was awarded MVP of the 2013 Super Bowl.
Browns Not Ready to Make Decision on QB
For the Los Angeles Rams game on Sunday, Thompson-Robinson is doubtful. After taking a big hit against the Denver Broncos, he sustained a concussion and is presently undergoing protocol. Kevin Stefanski, the head coach of the Browns, is delaying selecting his quarterback until later this week.
“On Mondays, we don’t really announce starters at any position. Therefore, those are the elements that you constantly go through when it comes to the depth chart, Stefanski stated on Monday, November 27. You only have this week to deal with those kinds of issues. In light of who is accessible, that is what we will do. The NFL functions in this manner. That is our modus operandi. Week by week, it varies. That’s the way things are.
If it’s not Flacco, the Browns would turn to Walker, who has started a pair of games and played in relief of Thompson-Robinson against the Broncos. Flacco was not active after being signed earlier in the week.
Walker went 6 of 13 for 56 yards with a 58.5 rating against the Broncos. The problem for Walker has been turnovers. He has five interceptions and has lost two fumbles this season, tossing just one touchdown.
Joe Flacco Wants to Prove He Can Still Play
Even if Thompson-Robinson is given the all-clear to play, Flacco has a shot to start. In the rookie’s three starts, Cleveland has only averaged 9.3 points; Flacco’s huge arm should help rekindle the offense, which has been stale.
“I firmly think I’m still capable of playing. When Flacco was introduced on November 22, he stated, “And like I said, I’m focused on the day to day.” “And as long as I am able to accomplish that, I believe that I will give it my all in whatever capacity and wherever this leads me.”
Flacco was formerly a member of the New York Jets. In four starts, he passed for 1,051 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.
