Vikings To Replace Josh Dobbs With $4 Million Veteran QB

Vikings To Replace Josh Dobbs With $4 Million Veteran QB

It was entertaining to travel in Josh Dobbs’ rocket ship, but it’s time for the Minnesota Vikings to return to Earth and start a more experienced quarterback.

Despite having virtually little knowledge of the playbook or his teammates, Dobbs led the Vikings to an incredible comeback victory over the Atlanta Falcons, capturing the attention of not just the Vikings fan base but the whole NFL world. With a win against the New Orleans Saints and a one-point loss on the road to the revitalized Denver Broncos, the streak continued.

However, following a 4-interception performance in a Monday Night Football home loss to the lowly Chicago Bears (12–10), the Vikings should be more concerned with taking back control of the NFC Wild Card race than they should be with telling their story.

The best way for Minnesota to do this is by starting backup quarterback Nick Mullens after the bye week.

Kevin O’Connell Indicated He May Bench Josh Dobbs for Nick Mullens

Now that Justin Jefferson is scheduled to make his comeback to the field when his team plays the Las Vegas Raiders on December 10, Kevin O’Connell has thirteen days to try out and assess which of his three quarterbacks gives the Vikings the best chance at winning.

During a press conference on Tuesday, November 28, O’Connell discussed his ideas without making a firm commitment to a particular course of action.

Anytime you can infuse the best receiver in football back into your offense, there’s going to be ways to … get Justin going and make sure he has a critical impact on the football game. … The quarterback position absolutely plays into that.

We’re going to make sure that whoever is playing quarterback is aware and understands the intent behind plays where either Justin is the primary [target], or based upon coverage, based upon the defensive look, how to quickly and efficiently get to the right place to go with the football.

In the end that’s what the NFL passing game is about — rhythm, timing, understanding that the defense can and will take some things away, but progressing in rhythm.

Attending O’Connell’s news conference, ESPN’s Kevin Seifert provided a comprehensive summary of the coach’s remarks in a post on X (previously known as Twitter) on Tuesday.

Seifert stated, “Kevin O’Connell discussed today how he’ll select the Vikings’ post-bye quarterback.” “A portion of it matched Nick Mullens’ characteristics, but he also mentioned Jaren Hall favorably and raised the idea of aggressively tailoring the plan to Josh Dobbs’ advantages.”
