Browns Provide A Somber Two-Word Update on Their $100M Defender
Kevin Stefanski, the head coach of the Browns, is unsure if Denzel Ward will play this week.
Denzel Ward’s availability for Sunday’s Cleveland Browns vs. Los Angeles Rams game is still highly questionable.
The Pro Bowl cornerback, Ward, has a shoulder problem, and the Browns have been keeping an eye on him. This week, he hasn’t practiced, and Browns coach Kevin Stefanski didn’t provide much updates.
When asked if Ward would practice this week on Wednesday, November 29, Stefanski responded, “We’ll see.”
Last week against the Denver Broncos, Ward did not play. Prior to that game, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported that Ward might miss a few games because of the injury.
The Browns are assessing Ward’s condition, which may include damage to his labrum. Naturally, they’re hope he won’t be absent for a long time, Cabot wrote on November 24.
Greg Newsome Believes the Defense of the Browns Will Rebound
It’s bad news for Ward, who has struggled to stay active throughout his career. Over his six NFL seasons, he has never completed a complete season due to several game absences due to various injuries.
In 2022, Ward became the highest-paid cornerback in the league when he signed a $100.5 million extension with the Browns. Under the deal, he received a guarantee of $71.25 million and will be associated with the Browns through the 2027 season.
“Getting him back is always crucial, without a doubt. Who wouldn’t want the NFL’s best cornerback out there, in my opinion? CB Greg Newsome of the Browns stated on Wednesday.
The Broncos targeted Newsome now that Ward was not in the starting lineup. On Pro Football Focus, he received an awful coverage score of 34.1 and an overall grade of 43.7.
We didn’t play our best ball last week, but that’s simply the way the NFL operates.
We’ll play better this week if you don’t play your best game that week, Newsome remarked. “The Rams have excellent wide receivers. We have terrific corners, so whether [Ward] plays or not, we want him back out there. He is essential to our success, but we only ask that he take his time and make sure he’s fully prepared for us when he returns.
The Browns’ excellent defense is beginning to suffer more injuries, as evidenced by Ward’s conspicuous absence against the Broncos. Superstar pass-rusher Myles Garrett is dealing with a shoulder issue, and veteran safety Rodney McLeod was sidelined for the whole season due to a biceps injury.
Garrett managed to play through the pain against the Broncos, but he was unable to raise his shoulder after the game and needed assistance taking his shirt off. He claimed he felt a “pop” in his shoulder during the game and arrived at his press conference wearing a sling.
Following the 29-12 defeat, Garrett declared, “I’m not going to come out unless it’s falling off—it’s already falling off.” “I share the same desire to win that the other men do. I’m giving them everything I have, regardless of how I’m feeling.
As the focal point of their defense, Garrett is being closely watched by the Browns. Stefanski, though, is optimistic that he can defeat the Rams.
When asked if he thought Garrett will suit up to play the Rams, Stefanski responded, “I do.” “We’ll observe his progress this week.”
