“He’s been broken down by the Patriot way,” says Chris Broussard, blaming Bill Belichick for Mac Jones’ decline.
Mac Jones’ decline is attributed by Chris Broussard to Bill Belichick, saying, “He’s been broken down by the Patriot way.”
In Week 12, the New England Patriots fell to the New York Giants 10-7, and Bill Belichick benched Mac Jones. He was replaced by Bailey Zappe, who will begin play in Week 13.
Belichick benched Jones because he’s had a dismal season despite giving him enough of opportunities to show his abilities. The former Alabama first-round choice has thrown for 2,120 yards, 10 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and a passer rating of 77.0 in 11 games this season.
Despite his lackluster performance over the past two seasons, Chris Broussard believes Mac Jones still has a lot of football left in him as a starting quarterback.
Broussard recently said that the “Patriots way” has broken Jones, and a fresh start could help him revive his career.
Broussard said on First Things First:
“I think there may be those out there who look at him. He’s clearly broken, and you remember his rookie year, he played fine, and, then, since had three offensive coordinators in three years. One of them was a defensive coordinator.”
“I’m just saying he’s been broken down by the Belichick way, the Patriot Way all that, I’m not so sure another team down the line might not give him a chance.”
“I believe that some people might be observing him. He did well in his rookie season and has had three offensive coordinators in three years, so it’s obvious that he’s broken. There was a defensive coordinator among them.
“I’m just saying another team down the road might not give him a chance because he’s been broken down by the Belichick way, the Patriot Way, and all that.”
In Week 13, the New England Patriots take on the Los Angeles Chargers with a record of 2-9.
They should have a top-three draft pick the following year and may select Drake Maye or even Caleb Williams, given their remaining schedule.
Mac Jones appeared to be the Patriots’ future franchise quarterback after an outstanding rookie campaign. Sadly, Josh McDaniels, the former offensive coordinator, left to take a coaching position with the Las Vegas Raiders, and things changed.
Jones’ decline can be ascribed to ineffective coaching and a dearth of teammates with exceptional skill to back him up. He might depart the Patriots after this season because, as Broussard noted, a number of teams in the league might be prepared to provide him a better opportunity with a superior roster.
