Over the weekend, two distinct Toronto Maple Leafs prospects—one with the Marlies and the other with the Newfoundland Growlers—put on impressive displays.

Topi Niemelä, the Leafs’ best defense prospect, is getting used to his first full professional season in North America.

Niemelä played a baker’s dozen with the American League affiliate before he moved to the Toronto Marlies late last year from Finland.

The 21-year-old offensive defenseman is playing in Toronto for the first time in his career, and he is off to a great start.

Though it is unlikely that Maple Leafs supporters would keep Voit on their roster for at least another season, Niemelä might play for the team at any point because the blue line is now held together with scotch tape.
