Chase Koepka and a former Ryder Cup player have withdrawn from the LIV Golf Promotions event
Chase Koepka, a relegated LIV golfer, and the former Ryder Cup star both withdraw from the qualifying round.
The final three spots in the 2024 LIV Golf League will be given during the LIV Promotions tournament, although two well-known players will not be competing in Abu Dhabi.
Chase Koepka and Victor Dubuisson, former members of Team Europe at the Ryder Cup, have withdrawn from the upcoming Abu Dhabi Golf Club LIV Golf Promotions event.
A player’s final opportunity to secure a full card for the contentious start-up next year is this weekend’s 72-hole competition in the United Arab Emirates, as there are just three spots available in the LIV Golf League ahead of the 2024 campaign.
However, the aforementioned two, along with World No. 440 Lee Chieh-po, have withdrawn and will not be competing in the three-stage event taking place between December 8 and 10, according to a recent release from LIV.
The three have been replaced as LIV adopts promotion and relegation for the first time in its brief history. Grégory Bourdy, Kazuki Higa, and David Horsey are the new players, all of whom have competed on the DP World Tour recently.
“LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman stated that the interest in the event’s first year highlights the importance of these new opportunities for the sport, and LIV Golf Promotions creates an open pathway for players to compete in the LIV Golf League.”
“LIV Golf is creating a platform for these current and rising stars of the game to develop their careers in novel, exciting ways. There is extraordinary talent from all over the world.” The future of LIV Golf appears bright, and we’re eager to see who rivals will be a part of this league that will revolutionize golf in 2024.
Despite having a challenging 2023 on the competitive circuit, Koepka was able to record a remarkable ace on the ‘Watering Hole’ at LIV Adelaide. However, following the LIV Team Championships, Koepka finished in the bottom four.
After announcing that he would “love to have” his younger brother back on Smash GC for 2024, five-time Major winner Brooks Koepka signed Graeme McDowell to round out his roster.
Dubuisson, however, was a standout member of Team Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup team in 2014, which defeated Team USA at Gleneagles.
LIV is switching from its customary 54-hole format to a 72-hole event this week. The top-20 players from the opening round will advance to the second stage on Saturday, when the scores will be reset.
The action on Saturday will then feature players who were given a first-round bye; this group was supposed to include Chase Koepka and the other three golfers who were demoted from the 2023 season.
The top-20 players will go to Sunday’s final round of competition, which consists of a 36-hole shootout after another round of 18 holes.
In addition to LIV cards, the top three will receive prize money of $200,000, $150,000, and $100,000, respectively.
Participants who place between fourth and tenth will receive exemptions to all 2024 Asian Tour International Series events.
