Ben Roethlisberger Takes A Direct Shot at the Steelers’ Current Quarterback

With Deshaun Watson out and Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Joe Flacco fighting for snaps, Cleveland is facing quarterback issues. However, Pittsburgh is also lacking inspiration with Mitchell Trubisky and Mason Rudolph playing together now that Kenny Pickett is sidelined.
Ben Roethlisberger, the Pittsburgh signal-caller who last appeared in a Pro Bowl in 2017, is now criticizing Rudolph and raising legitimate concerns about his inability to play.

The Steelers are looking for alternatives while Pickett misses several weeks due to an ankle injury he sustained during a defeat to the Arizona Cardinals. The only two internal options are the virtually invisible Rudolph and Trace McSorely, who Pittsburgh recently added to the practice squad. Trubisky has not impressed when he has been given snaps.
Roethlisberger has been firm about how he would manage the position even as discussions about the best course of action have raged.

Indeed, Roethlisberger is right. Rudolph is devoid of reps.
He hasn’t in a long time.
Mason Rudolph Hasn’t Had Any Insightful Pictures in A Long Time
Mason Rudolph, who was selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft out of Oklahoma State, made his debut in 2019 when Ben Roethlisberger suffered an injury. He appeared in ten games, made eight starts, and won five of them while completing 62.2% of his throws for 13 touchdowns against nine interceptions.
However, after Big Ben’s body was back to normal, as it had been for the majority of his career, Rudolph was once more confined to the bench for the 2020 campaign. In the season finale versus the Browns, he was benched after throwing for 315 yards, two touchdowns, and a pick while Roethlisberger was resting. It was his only start of the season.
A year later, when Roethlisberger was undergoing COVID-19 treatments, Rudolph played his way to a 16–16 draw with the Detroit Lions in his lone start. That was the end of it. For the last three seasons, he has returned on one-year contracts; nevertheless, he has been stuck in a third-string role and hasn’t played a major snap since tossing eight passes in the final moments of the game with a blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on December 26, 2021.
It’s true that Roethlisberger claims Rudolph has lived in Pittsburgh for a considerable amount of time. Similarly, he wonders why the Steelers would call him after denying him the opportunity to shoot any noteworthy photos for almost two full years.
That is not going to alter any time soon.
The Steelers will stick with Trubisky until Pickett is ready to return, if not later, if past performance is any guide. And before trading Rudolph’s clipboard for a real pigskin, they’ll probably look to McSorely or another outside candidate if the 29-year-old blows this most recent chance to impress.
