George Russell and Lewis Hamilton argue over a “dumb” Formula One concept, and Toto Wolff takes sides.
Compared to Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff and teammate George Russell, Lewis Hamilton has a significantly different opinion on the matter of F1 considering the introduction of reverse grids for Sprint events starting in 2024.
Toto Wolff concurs with George Russell that it would be a “really stupid” concept to use reverse grids for Formula 1 Sprint events. However, Lewis Hamilton is more receptive to the proposed 2024 season shift.
The Formula One Commission is now thinking about how to improve the Sprint format, which they want to stick with but admit needs some adjustments to make the action more thrilling.
The idea seems to have caused a rift between the two Mercedes drivers. With an open mind, Hamilton stated, “The finest Sprint race.
Russell, a teammate, is less enthusiastic. He stated: “I won’t speak for the drivers, but in my opinion, reverse grid races won’t be successful.
This is just based on my personal experience racing in Formula 3 and Formula 2.”The automobile you’re fighting with is the hardest to pass if you have the top ten fastest cars.
If you flip that grid, the fastest car in position 10 will attempt to pass the second-fastest car in position 9, which is attempting to pass the third-fastest car in position 8. In other words, every automobile is genuinely attempting to pass the closest rival.
It would essentially merely be a DRS train, as you would most likely discover, because every six months, we engage in extremely foolish behavior, and everyone is aware of this. It’s refreshing that there will be additional victors and diverse podiums.
We thus play Formula 1 24 times on Sunday and six times in WWE on Saturday.”
