Is Charles Leclerc going to sign Ferrari’s reported F1 contract extension through 2029?
According to reports, Charles Leclerc is nearing a five-year contract extension with Ferrari, which would secure his spot with the club through the 2029 Formula One season.
According to Gazzetta, Leclerc is expected to ink a large compensation increase and a new contract extension with Ferrari shortly.
But should he extend his stay with the team, rather than if he will, is the question.
Leclerc will be with the Italian team for a sixth consecutive season in 2024.
His greatest accomplishments to date are five race victories, 22 pole positions, and a second-place finish in the drivers’ championship (2022).
Although this might not be too awful for a driver in the sport—winning in Formula One is a tough feat—it is very disappointing that he has only accomplished this, considering his talent.
In the juvenile racing circuit, Charles Leclerc has shown himself to be a fantastic driver. He has demonstrated his speed in qualifying laps and on-track competitions even in Formula One with Ferrari.
He had a great start to the 2022 season, and although he could have maintained his lead at the top of the table, there were several.
Decisions taken in Las Vegas (2023), Monaco, and Hungary (2022) cost them significant points in the standings.
The team’s last world title (Constructors’ 2008 with Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa) was won more than 15 years ago.
Charles Leclerc could be able to return for a longer spell at Ferrari, though.
He still has a lot of time behind the wheel, and although though the squad made some dubious strategic decisions in 2023, there seems to be a promising trajectory for growth. Leclerc finished in second place at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, while Max Verstappen won once more.
This breakthrough from a squad that experienced the worst season opening in the history of the sport demonstrates the improving R&D trajectory.
Ferrari will also have extra time in the wind tunnel which the team can put to good use and develop a competitive car. This will make Leclerc’s stint till 2029 (if it happens) perhaps more productive with championship victories.
