Bobby Petrino’s new $3-million contract contract includes a country club membership
Bobby Petrino is back in the saddle, Razorback fans! This is amazing news. It’s the return of the prodigal son. The other half is now whole. After all these years, the unresolved issues have been resolved and the world of college football has finally stabilized. Please, Mr. Tyler, do the honors for us.
Petrino returned to the scene of his most notorious scandal this week when he was named the new offensive coordinator of the Arkansas Razorbacks—a swan song that nobody asked for and even fewer anticipated.
This will be Petrino’s second assignment at Arkansas after a turbulent tenure as head coach that came to an end in 2012 after he misled reporters about the existence of employee Jessica Dorrell, 25, on the back of his motorcycle at the time of the collision.
The news conference turned into one of the most darkly humorous moments in college football history because of Petrino’s neck brace and road-rashed face, and it left a physical black mark on his résumé for years to come.
With a two-year, $3 million contract that includes one very noteworthy benefit, Petrino is back at John Daly’s alma institution after being fired from Texas A&M alongside former head coach Jimbo Fisher.
A country club membership
I mean, nothing nefarious has ever occurred on a golf course? Though we are joking, you get the concept. Everyone wins if you keep Petrino in the wagon and off the Harley.
At least away from the field. Arkansas finished last in the SEC West this season, and things will only get harder with Mike Elko taking over in College Station with Texas and Oklahoma scheduled to join the conference in 2024.
Hopefully, Petrino’s cozy new membership in links keeps his mind clean and inspires playcalling; if not, the Razorbacks could crash and burn once more.
