With a £450 million deal, Jon Rahm “signs for LIV Golf,” shocking the PGA Tour.
Although Jon Rahm had earlier dismissed his odds of ever joining LIV Golf, the Masters champion has now honored his promise to play in the Saudi-funded series.
Amazingly, Jon Rahm has accepted to a contract with LIV Golf.
This is perhaps the breakaway circuit’s largest addition since it was founded last year.
Weeks have passed since Rahm was first mentioned in relation to the LIV setup, and it appears that an agreement has been reached between the breakaway league and the Masters winner.
Many sources claimed that Rahm was about to become the highest paid player in League of Legends history in the days preceding the Spaniard’s move to Saudi Arabia.
According to reports, the current Masters winner will receive an incredible £475 million ($600 million) contract to sign on.
But because of his LIV Golf move, it looks the Spaniard won’t be able to defend his three titles come January.
The PGA Tour has been stern in its penalties for members who join their LIV rivals; this summer, minutes when Micklson and company entered the Saudi-backed league’s inaugural event at Centurion, they were suspended.
Despite ongoing talks to resolve the conflict between the opposing tours, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) and the PGA Tour, Rahm is set to suffer the same fate.
Even though Rahm stayed mostly neutral during the most recent civil conflict, many people will nonetheless be surprised by his decision.
I was never fond of the structure. And during major practice rounds, I always have a great time with Sergio Garcia and Phil Mickelson.
Both Phil [Mickelson] and I honor our respective decisions.
Mickelson has repeatedly informed me that there is no reason for me to travel to play for LIV.
