After taking home the ‘Action of the Year’ title for his brawl with Sergio Perez in Brazil, Fernando Alonso said, “We have to encourage clean driving.”
Fernando Alono has took up the 2023 FIA prize-giving ceremony’s Action of the Year title.
This category selects the most exciting race of all by weighing some of the most exhilarating moments from each racing series overseen by the FIA.
This year’s winner was the close race for third place at the 2023 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix between Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso.
The 42-year-old Spaniard thanked everyone for the award in a video message that was broadcast during the event since Alonso was unable to accept it in person.
He gave Checo the trophy with warmth, pointing out that close racing is always a team effort.
“Many thanks for choosing me to receive the Action of the Year [award] for my Brazilian fight with Sergio.
Any struggle worth fighting requires the cooperation of two, therefore I also want to thank Sergio and give him this honor,” he remarked.
Fernando Alonso also hopes that this specific wheel-to-wheel combat will serve as a racing example for drivers of the future in addition to the present.
“I believe this should be an example not only for the current generation but also for the generations to come,” he said in closing. “We must promote clean driving without any contact between cars.”
I hope to see you all again next year with even more activity on the circuit. Thank you to the FIA for looking after us as well.
Sergio Perez on the exciting race in Brazil between Fernando Alonso and
Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez engaged in a fierce but fair on-track combat during the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver was pleased with their close wheel-to-wheel duel, even though he lost to Alonso.
Checo shared his thoughts on the race with the media following the event.
“The fight was really fierce. We made every effort,” he remarked. Fernando deserved it, but sadly, we were unable to pull that off.
We got into a really good, fair, and close fight, in my opinion. Many drivers, in my opinion, might benefit from this because of the manner we fought today and the things we accomplished.
