Tony Finau responds to reports about LIV Golf at 2023 Invitational Grant Thornton
NAPLES, Fla. – Tony Finau had two opportunities Friday to dispel rumors that he was leaving the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf, but he turned them down both times. When first asked about reports that he could follow Jon Rahm to the Saudi-funded league, Finau said: “I have nothing to say at this point. I heard nothing.
After a few minutes he was asked if he had received any answer as to his name. “No, not yet.” He said. “At this point, I haven’t immersed myself in anything other than playing.”
Finau had just completed a round with partner Nellie Korda at the 2023 Grant Thornton Invitational, where she was tied for the lead after shooting a 16-over-par 56 at Tiburon Golf Club. Finau’s agent, Chris Armstrong, told SI.com that this is all rumor and speculation. Finau, 34, has six PGA Tour wins. He is ranked 21st in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Finau and Tyrrell Hutton are some of the more famous names to make the jump. The name of Jason’s day is still spreading after Liv Golf is still alive in Palm Beach Post.
“I know there’s a rumor that I visited,” he said. “They are completely fragile. I don’t know where this rumor started.
“It’s still hard for me to watch LIV. I like some of their concepts. “They haven’t really understood the real form and joy of what they’re trying to achieve.”
Rahm, the No. 3 golfer in the world and Masters champion, announced Thursday on Fox News that he will be joining LIV. Lam’s business is worth more than $300 million in three years, with bonuses pushing that figure to more than $550 million.
“He made the best decision that he thought was right for his family and for himself,” Finau said. “I’m happy for him.”
