Lexi Thompson won Saturday’s tournament.

Lexi Thompson proved she can hang with the best players on the PGA Tour when she played in the Shriners Children’s Open earlier this fall and will do so again this week at the Grant Thornton Invitational. After a solid 60 with partner Rickie Fowler to start Friday’s mixed event, Thompson and Fowler squared off in Saturday’s alternate stroke format.

The Cobra-Puma-sponsored superstar duo made it through eight holes before finding their groove on the back nine in the second round at Tiburon Golf Club. Thompson and Fowler birdied five of the next seven holes to move within four shots of Tony Finau and Nellie Korda.

Then, in the 16th innings, Thompson scored the most goals ever in this tournament. Starting with 158, the 11-time LPGA Tour winner’s 7-iron skipped a shot and went straight into the cup for an ace.

“I was hoping it was the right number and the perfect number,” Thompson said after the round. “I’ve never dropped a flag,” Fowler added.

Thompson burst out laughing and yelling around the green as he shot a series of five holes, starting with caddy Fowler and partners Joel Dahmen and Lilia Wu.

Lexi Thompson also tied at the Shriners Childrens Open. Lexi Thompson’s heartbreaking PGA Tour still felt like a victory
“It’s probably one of the biggest ones [in terms of excitement] because I’ve raced about four times with decent crowds, so there were a lot of people around that jersey,” he said. Thompson. “It was fun to hear everyone go up and cheer. I want to watch his videos later. It’s definitely a good feeling. “I mean, it’s always a great feeling to hit a golf ball, make a putt, see the shot in front of you and make it happen.”

More importantly, the ace put Folver and Thompson in the top five at 16 under par. He is two behind Korda and Finau in the 16-team division.

They topped that tally with birdies on the final two holes and shot a respectable but eventful second round of 68.
