“What’s The Difference? I Got Paid A Lot Of Money To Go And Play European Events,” John Daly said on LIV Golf
“We’ve paid a lot of money to put on events in Europe, so what’s the difference?” -John Daly from LIV Golf
The two-time major winner is a longtime fan of LIV Golf and said moving through the ranks of PGA Tour players wouldn’t be a problem.
John Daly believes there is no difference between the paid European Tour events of the late 1980s and 1990s and modern day golfers making big money through the LIV Golf League.
Daly has always been a fan of LIV and had previously “begged” LIV Golf General Manager Greg Norman to invite him to the 54-hole course. Shorter tournaments, no discounts and bigger prize pools were the reasons why the “Wild Thing” wanted to play golf.
But the two-time major champion has now called it quits and continues to play on the PGA Tour Champions, where he has just one title to his credit: the 2017 Insperity Invitational. Following Jon Rahm’s landmark transition to PGA Tour LIV Golf, the American joined Tucker Carlson to discuss a variety of topics, including the PIF-funded league, on the host’s show.
When Carlson Daly asked him what he thought of the LIV, the three-time PGA Tour winner admitted he was a big fan and said the money he paid to travel between the US and European tours 30 years ago no different than what Rahm and others were. realization. today. . . At the LIV, Daly said: “very good. I’ll play it! I said to (Tim, former PGA Tour commissioner) Finchem, ‘Okay guys.’ [If] you play 15 tournaments, play them. In the regular tournament, you have to play 15 tournaments, and in the Tournament of Champions, I think you play 11 or 12 tournaments. When you’re done, let’s play wherever you want.
“I think golf is a growing game. I’m not going to sit here and deny that there is a lot of money to be had in European competitions. How is it different [from LIV]? There is no difference.”
Known for his extremely long drives, Daly also noted that his personality and unconventional approach will be a good fit for LIV Golf.
Daly continued: “I think LIV looks really good. I would be perfect for that. They have concerts, the boys have fun and they can wear shorts. In the Pro-Ams, we go karts like we do now. It’s like being on the Champions Tour. “Three days of golf is not a problem, but I would say that LIV’s pockets are a little bigger than what we have in the Champions Tour. To win $4 million in 54 holes is pretty cool. And then there’s your team. If your team wins, you will receive an additional $900,000.”
