Joe Flacco signs a one-year contract with the Browns, which includes a sizable bonus for winning his second Super Bowl; his statement regarding his desire to stay

The quarterback for the Browns and former MVP of the Super Bowl, Joe Flacco, is no longer with the practice squad.

He agreed to a $370,800 one-year contract with the Browns on Thursday, with winnings-based incentives worth up to $4.05 million, according to a league source that spoke with Cleveland.com. He will be free to join with any team after the contract expires in March.

He would receive an additional $2 million if he wins the Super Bowl, as he did in 2012 when he was named MVP of the championship. This would be a pleasant little Christmas bonus for a guy who was watching from the couch a month ago.

His other incentives are as follows:

* $75,000 for a victory in any of the final four regular season games;

* $250,000 for a wild card win;

* $500,000 for a divisional playoff win;

* $1 million for an AFC Championship Game win

He claimed that as far as he knows, no other team has attempted to sign him off the practice squad.

“I wouldn’t have gone, but it was always a possibility,” he said to Cleveland.com. Not a chance. Not a chance. This place has been amazing. I’m ecstatic.

He made it obvious that he intends to play longer than this year, recording a 1-1 record in his two starts and leaving Browns Town in awe of him. It remains to be seen if it is here. Deshaun Watson should fully recover from his damaged shoulder by the upcoming season, but the Browns may utilize Flacco’s expertise as a backup quarterback. Though a lot can happen in the interim, he fits right in.

“I’d love to play, and in the few weeks I’ve been here, this place has been great,” he remarked. “However, I just want to see where this goes and take things day by day.”

He told a small group of reporters a few minutes later that “me wanting to play is not in question,” but “who knows” where it will be.

Before he could even put on a shirt, Flacco—who has brought his self-deprecating sense of humor and innate leadership skills to the locker room—laughed at the realization that he was surrounded by reporters.

He was upgraded in each of the last two games after being added to the Browns practice squad on November 20. He stated that he felt essentially the same as he did prior to signing the one-year contract. He was on the practice squad with the Browns up to this point for procedural reasons. In addition to allowing them to save a roster space, a settlement had to be reached by both parties. They didn’t need it, but they still had one regular elevation available for him.

“I’m excited, but nothing feels really different,” he remarked. “I don’t need to be bounced around by them. In any case, I was mainly ignorant of all of that information.

With a giggle, Flacco said, “I kind of leave it up to Joe (Linta), my agent, and he brushes over it with me real quick and I come up and sign it.”

For the previous two games, when he was raised for the 36-19 loss to the Rams and the 31-27 triumph over the Jaguars on Sunday, he wasn’t even sure what his pay was.

“I’m not sure,” he uttered. “I haven’t checked my bank account recently. I have no idea whether I’ve received a check or not.

Players for the Browns, like receiver Amari Cooper, have expressed amazement at how fast he’s integrated into the group both on and off the field.

Cooper stated, “Guys in this league respect guys who have been in it for a long time because they know it’s not an easy thing to do.” Maintaining ability for an extended length of time is difficult. Guys appreciate him for being a Super Bowl winner and for his exceptional talent, especially with his arm. Therefore, it’s simple to develop a bond of camaraderie with a player you respect.
