Tiger Woods beamed with pride as his son Charlie Woods showed he is a chip off the old block in Orlando
Tiger Woods, the 15-time Major Championship winner, watched his son Charlie make a flawless flop shot during a warm-up at the 2023 PNC Championship family team tournament, and it left him speechless.
During a warm-up at the 2023 PNC Championship, Tiger Woods’ son Charlie proved he is a young gun by making a flawless flop shot. Woods was hardly able to contain his pride after that.
The father-son pair is one of the well-known figures that has come to the Orlando Ritz-Carlton Golf Club to compete in the most recent iteration of the 36-hole team competition. For his fourth appearance, Woods brought his 14-year-old son along, and they didn’t take long to reacquaint themselves with the course.
Charlie and his father Tiger met at the short game area, and after a particularly memorable moment, Charlie struck a shot that left both of them happy. Taking a complete backswing and executing an impeccable flop shot, the teenager’s technique was reminiscent of his father’s ultimate play.
“That was a really horrible conclusion there. Tiger gave his son an encouraging “F****** nasty,” and then, to his joy, clapped slowly at him. Charlie went to face his father, grinning, clearly happy that he had impressed his 15-time Major champion father.
Charlie’s father was so thrilled with his son’s impressive high-lofted chip that he declared it was time to end their warm-up. They had been hooking up with Annika Sorenstam, Steve Stricker, and Mark O’Meara earlier, hugging their former acquaintances and friends.
They have been paired with family friends Justin Thomas and Mike Thomas for the opening rounds of the PNC Championship, and they will tee off at 9 a.m. ET on Friday for the Pro-Am. They will play each other in the Orlando tournament for the fourth consecutive year on Saturday at 8:22 a.m. ET.
It’s evident that Tiger and Charlie share a strong bond when it comes to golf; a source tells PEOPLE that the sports legend takes a laid-back approach to teaching his son the proper technique. According to the insider, Tiger enjoys spending time on the golf course with Charlie, although their vibes are very different from Earl’s.
“Everyone is grinning. While Tiger is undoubtedly imparting the proper skills to him, their relationship lacks Earl’s intensity. It’s a fully bonding experience. With Charlie, Tiger can be witty and silly. It’s not always “all work and no play,” as Earl occasionally felt.”
In an interview with ESPN, Tiger acknowledged that he enjoys competing with his kid in competitions like the PNC Championship. “Any time I get a chance to spend time with my son, it’s always special and to do it in a competitive forum, the last couple of years have been magical, and to be able to do it again, we’re looking forward to it.”
Tiger revealed how much he enjoys spending time with his kid on the golf course after caddying for Charlie at the Last Chance Regional in Florida in September 2023. He continued, saying, “We just stay in our own little world.” Every shot is taken one at a time.”
