“I didn’t bring them bad luck,” says Martin Brundle.
During his ‘Grid Walk’ segment, Formula One pundit and commentator Martin Brundle has made it his goal to break the Hamilton curse by speaking with Lewis Hamilton.
The famed ‘grid walk’ is a pre-race feature in which driver-turned-commentator Martin Brundle walks around the grid and strikes up a conversation with other drivers or celebrities.
In the segment, a number of drivers and celebrities have appeared. But one motorist who hasn’t participated in this engaging ritual is Hamilton.
Brundle is certain that every time he speaks with the 64-year-old prior to a race, the seven-time world champion thinks he crashes.
In a recent episode of Sky Sports F1 fan Q&A, Brundle answered a query regarding Hamilton’s potential decision to put up his boots after walking over the grid.
Brundle stated (h/t planet).
Yes, I will, and I do. However, someone also persuaded Lewis that he crashed each time he spoke with me on the grid.
“In support of his assertions, Brundle pointed to the most recent Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, in which he interacted with Charles Leclerc and George Russell, two of the top three finishers. He continued: “
But I spoke to two of the three podium drivers on the grid in Abu Dhabi and actually could have spoken to Max as well if I’d have been a bit sharper, so I didn’t bring them bad luck.
In contrast, Lewis Hamilton ended P3 with 234 points this season despite not winning a single race.
Nico Rosberg, the former Mercedes driver who won the 2016 F1 championship, is confident that Lewis Hamilton will fight for an eighth world title in the upcoming season.
The British driver tied the record with Michael Schumacher in 2020 when he won his seventh world championship, but has missed out on the coveted eighth the last three seasons.
Hamilton came close to winning the title in 2021, but Red Bull driver Max Verstappen won it in the controversial Abu Dhabi GP.
Since then, the Dutchman has been an unstoppable force, dominating the last two seasons.
