Justin Fields and the Bears, according to Browns DE Myles Garrett, have “evolved.”
When Myles Garrett, a defensive end for the Cleveland Browns, faced Justin Fields, a rookie quarterback for the Chicago Bears, in 2021, he recorded 4.5 sacks on the quarterback.
The Browns won 26–6 on that day, marking Fields’ first start in the NFL.
After two years, Fields’ future is still uncertain, but Garrett is still among the finest in his field.
Garrett, though, is aware that a lot has happened since then.
Fields is still among the league’s top rushing quarterbacks and has progressed in almost every aspect of the game.
In addition, Garrett stated that the Bears of 2023 are not the same team as the one he and the Browns played two years prior.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Garrett stated, “Fields and that entire offense have evolved.”
His timing, pocket awareness, ability to judge when to run and when to pass while keeping an eye on his reads—if he can’t see it, he will utilize his legs.
Well, the last time we played, he was attempting to pass while staying in the pocket.
I don’t think he truly understood when that internal clock is going, especially when there were skilled rushers on the opposing side.
He’s feeling like, “All right, it’s not here, it’s there, let me use my God-given ability and get out of here,” right now.
Fields was the target of nine sacks by the Browns.
