NFL penalized Myles Garrett, a star for the Browns, $25,000.
Myles Garrett (95), a defensive end for the Cleveland Browns, presses the Denver Broncos quarterback while offensive tackle Garett Bolles (72) blocks him during the first half of the NFL game on Sunday, November 26, 2023, in Denver.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Myles Garrett, a standout defensive end for the Cleveland Browns, made controversial comments after last week’s game against Jacksonville, leading to the NFL fining him $25,000 for “public criticism of officiating,” a person familiar with the sanction told The Associated Press.
The source, who requested to remain anonymous since the league has not released the player fines for this week, stated that Garrett was notified of the violation on Saturday.
Furious that the Jaguars did not receive a fine for having him, Garrett contacted.
As offensive linemen were blocking him, Garrett felt that there weren’t enough penalties being called against them, which was starting to get to him.
He feels that the refs have not been treating him fairly because he has been stuck on 13 sacks for the past three weeks.
After practice on Friday, Garrett remarked, “It had been something that had been stoked for the last couple of weeks, and then other rushers have been dealing with the same thing.”
“I can only speak for myself, but you know something’s kind of off when an entire position gets fed up with how they’re being treated.”
One of the best pass rushers in the league, T.J. Watt of Pittsburgh, recently said something comparable to Garrett.
Garrett stated on Friday that he has no regrets about his reaction.
Certainly We therefore anticipate calling it when he is being visibly restrained.
On Sunday, the Browns (8-5)—who are attempting to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2002—will meet the Chicago Bears (5-8).
When the clubs last faced off in 2021, Garrett had a career-high 4 1/2 sacks, and the Browns defeated the Packers 26–6 by sacking quarterback Justin Fields nine times.
