Inspection Results In Disqualification For Lewis Hamilton And Charles Leclerc From The US Grand Prix
Following their cars’ failure to pass post-race inspections, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton were both disqualified from Sunday’s US Grand Prix.
Leclerc placed sixth in Austin, while former world champion Hamilton finished second behind Max Verstappen.
However, a technical team discovered that the floor boards of both drivers’ cars had severe wear, which marred the results.
After a hearing that happened almost four hours after Verstappen, who has already won the driver’s championship, won the race on Sunday, he was disqualified.
The FIA, which oversees motorsports, released a statement saying that both teams had accepted the inspection report’s conclusions and that the uneven course and the short turnaround time for Sunday’s race following Saturday’s sprint were probably to blame for the anomalies.
Due to Hamilton’s disqualification, Lando Norris of McLaren moved up to second place, while Carlos Sainz, Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate, who finished fourth, moved up to third.
George Russell, a Mercedes driver, rose from seventh to fifth after Leclerc was disqualified.
