Mitch Trubisky, the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, might be out.

After this season, the Steelers may be done with the former second-overall selection pick, according to Over the Cap. Retaining him would result in a 2024 cap hit of $7.556 million, plus a $1 million roster bonus that is due in March. Removing the seven-year veteran results in $4.613 million in dead money being recorded, but it also saves $2.943 million on the cap.
The Steelers’ financial position would improve in 2025 ($2.306 million in dead money and $6 million in cap savings), but nobody wants to see a recurrence of 2023.
Rudolph’s contract expires at the end of this season, so Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan should release Trubisky, recruit a college free agency, or, at the at least, remove a veteran who has shown he can win.
Sadly, Trubisky will most likely return since benching him would mean acknowledging their error. We also know that Tomlin dislikes being in error.
