Latest Steelers trade: Why a George Pickens trade is unlikely for Steelers
Current rumors about a Steelers deal are a serious disrespect to George Pickens.
George Pickens, a wide receiver, seems to be untradeable even if the Pittsburgh Steelers attempted.
George Pickens, the wide receiver for the Steelers, has had a difficult few months. Despite his immense potential, the Georgia wide receiver in his second year allows his annoyance get the better of him when he doesn’t consistently catch the football. Do you recognize this?
Before the Colts game, Mike Tomlin talked with Pickens. He used his background as a defensive backs coach to highlight the reasons why Pickens gets benched for extended periods of time: defensive coordinators frequently try to make an offense look one-dimensional or single out the star player on their side. Pickens has experienced it many times this season, and he hasn’t handled it well. Only last week, Tomlin described it as an issue.
“When you have a dynamic player, you’ll usually choose a play or period of play where you’re just going to keep that man off the ball and force other players to beat you. And the goal is to prevent a key player from getting the ball in their hands, but if that player does, it’s also to incite tension in him and that group, according to Tomlin.
Nevertheless, on Saturday, Pickens’ lack of effort and encouragement for his teammates was clear. He declined to run as Jaylen Warren’s blocker and declined to pursue a Colts defensive back following an interception.
Why the Steelers are unlikely to get George Pickens
Is there a possibility the Steelers might consider moving Pickens this summer, given that his displeasure is at an all-time high right now? Even though Pickens is just in his second season on a rookie contract, he seems to be more important than most teams who are in contention want to deal with.
In response to a Steelers Depot post featuring Pickens, NFL writer Aditi Kinkhabwala stated that a trade for the wide receiver would be difficult to pull off:
Pickens is an issue for the Steelers, but he would also cause issues in a lot of other teams’ locker rooms. Why would any front desk throw out its arms to accept that chance?
