F1 champion on contrast between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen
The F1 champion, Jody Scheckter, has made a clear comparison between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in terms of the Dutch driver’s dominance over his colleagues. Having dominating the sport for the past two seasons, Max has now won the world championship three times. What’s even more amazing is how dominant the Dutch driver has been versus his colleague.
Sergio Perez, Max Verstappen’s teammate, was limited to two victories in 2022, while Verstappen won fifteen. Verstappen won 19 races in 2023, while his teammate only managed two victories, making him unbeatable once again.
Lewis Hamilton has had the most successful Formula One career; compare this to his record. But over the course of a season, Hamilton has also fallen short against his colleagues Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg. Jody Scheckter compared Red Bull driver Max Verstappen to Lewis Hamilton, pointing out that the latter’s dominance over the former makes Verstappen a modern-day great already. Scheckter stated:
“I believe he is really very good, one of the best of all time. If you think about Hamilton, a great driver, [but] he was still beaten by one of his team-mates. It’s impressive to see that none of Max’s team-mates seem to come close. Red Bull made a fantastic car, but it is Verstappen who manages to get everything out of it, especially when you look at Perez’s performance with the same car.”
He added:
“It is Verstappen in every situation – including the very complicated ones – who manages to [come out on top]. He has a vision of the race where he sees everything, including what is happening behind him with the strategies.”
Scheckter asserts that Max Verstappen, the rival of Lewis Hamilton, is superior than every driver of his generation.
The former Ferrari driver expressed his gratitude to Max Verstappen, saying the Red Bull driver was superior to all other racers in his generation. He declared:
“Max is better than all of the drivers who drove in my time. The difference that is sometimes pointed out is that people say that in those days they were ‘real men’ risking their lives. Back then, it was the bolides that often broke down. Not the Ferrari but the Tyrrell, for example. That’s why I understood afterwards that I was lucky.”
Before Michael Schumacher did it in 2000, Jody Schecketer was the last driver to win a championship with the Italian brand. The fact that the driver, a great in his own right, expressed admiration for Max Verstappen is undoubtedly significant.
