NEWS GIST: Former Vikings coach Mike Zimmer preparing to return to coaching
Former Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer has stayed under the radar since his terminating in January of 2022, just momentarily springing up as an examiner/advisor for Deion Sanders’ Jackson State group soon thereafter. Zimmer made his first public statement since leaving Minnesota, stating that he had been “watching tape and studying analytics.”
Zimmer spoke with Tom Pelissero on the NFL+ show The Insiders (subscription required) on Tuesday about his time away from football and what has changed since he last played in the league.
“All things considered, I have around 270 sections of land in Kentucky so that keeps me somewhat occupied,” Zimmer said when asked what he’s been doing since he last trained in the association.
“However, I fabricated a little place of business that I go around there, watch a tape and study examination and every one of the various things that you got to do. In this way, simply keeping steady over the game.”
The 67-year-old went 72-46-1 as the Vikings’ lead trainer from 2014-21, including three season finisher appearances and two NFC North titles. A cautious leaning lead trainer, Zimmer’s Vikings flaunted top-10 safeguards in five of the eight years he was in control.
I get a ton of the game tapes. I go through a great deal of the third and fourth circumstances, a ton of the red zone. “All of the little things you try to do to manage the game,” Zimmer said. Take a look at your good work over the past eight years as another thing to do. What you might have improved. Things you might have changed or done any other way throughout the span of the time.”
