NEWS GIST: Steelers sign Brad Wing to practice squad
Poor punting can have a significant impact on a game, as we have personally witnessed, and the Pittsburgh Steelers seem unwilling to take any chances with Pressley Harvin III.
The veteran punter Brad Wing has been added to the practice squad, the team announced this morning. It’s understandable because it conveys a lack of confidence in Harvin. At just 43.4 yards per attempt, he is among the league’s weakest punters.
When Harvin had a hamstring injury early in the season, Wing was with Pittsburgh. Sadly, he wasn’t a suitable replacement. In Weeks 4 and 5, he attempted 11 punts, averaging 45 yards per attempt. He has three punts within the 20-yard line, two touchbacks, and a 52-yard gain.
In 2014, Wing punted 61 times for 2,668 yards while playing for Pittsburgh. He made 20 tries that were within the opponents’ 20-yard line, according to Steelers.com.
The Steelers cut quarterback Trace McSorley on Tuesday to make place for Wing.
Move this to the “watch” section. The Steelers have added P Brad Wing to their practice squad.
