Reason why Joel Dahmen is owed at least 17 steak dinners from his fellow pros at Sony
A four-footer on his last hole of the day, especially for a birdie, is something that no tour pro wants to miss. Regardless of your position on the leaderboard, those are the ones that make dinner taste a whole lot better that evening.
But for Dahmen, his narrow miss on Friday at the Sony Open at the par-5 ninth (his 18th) won him, at the very least, 17 complimentary dinners from other tour pros. Chess, not checkers, kiddies.
Why was Dahmen’s four-footer so significant to so many people? For if it had dropped, the “Full Swing” star would have finished the tournament at three under, placing him among the 65 players who were at three under or better, right on the cut line.
Dahmen, along with the other eighteen players, brought the guys at two under with him for the remainder of the weekend by missing. For that exclusive group, Kevin Prise of the PGA Tour was there to record the moment that would change the course of the week:
To be clear, nobody is implying that Dahmen purposefully missed this. It’s likely that he believed he needed it in order to make it to the weekend safely. He eventually found out, though, and is now regarded as a hero by this crew:
These gentlemen will all receive a guaranteed income on Sunday thanks to Dahmen, so they better save up a few shekels for their boy:
Michael Kim, another All-Star in golf on Twitter, has already shown gratitude to Dahmen, stating, “I owe you beers next time I see you.” He’s actually a White Claw man, Michael.
Further indication that Dahmen genuinely is a man of the people.
