Jerry Jones, Cowboys owner, sends clear message to players: ‘We got to win, this is the Dallas Cowboys’
Monday’s Dallas Cowboys locker room cleanup day mirrored the mood of Sunday’s AT&T Stadium postgame: sad and subdued.
The majority of the players in attendance were leaving the stadium swiftly, leaving behind their disappointment at the second-seeded Cowboys’ 48-32 loss to the seventh-seeded Green Bay Packers in the NFL playoffs’ opening round. The loss ended the Cowboys’ 16-game home winning streak at AT&T Stadium and put an end to their 2023 season.
“It hasn’t been 24 hours at this point, I’m still in shock,” Dallas cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis said Monday when requested to depict the inclination encompassing the game a day after the fact. ” More shock than anything.”
Dallas has something like 12 successes for three seasons straight under Head coach Mike McCarthy subsequent to going 12-5 consistently beginning around 2021. This stretch denotes the subsequent time in establishment history for that to happen, joining the Cowboys’ 1990s line run from 1992-1995 in which they won three Super Dishes in four seasons. McCarthy is the only Cowboys head coach to achieve this accomplishment.
McCarthy tended to the 2023 cycle of the Cowboys for the last time Monday morning, sharing a message of sympathy and lament.
“He felt for us,” Lewis said transferring McCarthy’s message to the team today. ” He needed it downright terrible for us given the type of folks we are together. We needed it.”
Jerry Jones, the team’s owner and general manager, also addressed the group, expressing his dismay and annoyance regarding the Cowboys’ early postseason exit.
“We got to win,” Lewis said while handing-off Jones’ message in a gathering with the players on Monday. ” This is the Dallas cowboys, we had all that to win. We can’t allow this inclination to continue onward on. I simply feel like he (Jones) needs to win at this moment. The earnestness is presently. It was consistently that, and we generally had that on our shoulders, yet he made that understood. That was his point.”
Turpin said Jones, 81-years of age, underscored the ticking clock of Father Time.
“Jerry discussed how he doesn’t have such a large number of years left around here,” Turpin said. ” He just really wants it. He needs a ring terrible.”
Lewis, a cowboys third round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, is one of 16 of Dallas’ forthcoming unlimited free specialists, and possibly seeing his profession his the team that drafted him end this is difficult for the 28-year-old cautious back.
“I simply needed to assist the team with winning,” Lewis said. ” We’ve been here together, we all, for three years at this point, and I simply needed to complete it the correct way. It hurt that we didn’t be able to do that. Life goes on. The way that we lost hurts. I probably won’t be a piece of this one year from now, so it sort of damages.”
With their head coach work status up in the air, both Lewis and Turpin stepped up to the plate for him. McCarthy’s vocation record in four seasons as the cowboys head coach is 42-25 (62.7% win rate), giving him the most noteworthy profession win level of any coach in team history. Lewis compared that to Jason Garrett’s volatile tenure, during which the team went 86-67 in ten seasons (55.9% win percentage). McCarthy’s postseason record is 1-3 with the sole success coming in last year’s trump card round against 45-year-old Tom Brady and the NFC South hero Pirates in Tampa. That is the reason he is right now under a microscope.
“This is perhaps of the hardest work in America, quarterback and the head coach of the Dallas cowboys,” Lewis said when gotten some information about McCarthy’s residency as the team’s head coach. ” I feel as he’s worked effectively everything in thought. All things considered, it is challenging. A great deal of media, a many individuals against you, all the external clamor and we just ensured that we stuck our arms around one another and remained together. We did a really good job, in my opinion. He assisted me a great deal with my vocation, and I feel like I gleaned some significant experience with him. … Lewis said, “Look at what he did in comparison to what happened when he wasn’t here.” We were attempting to be more than .500. He had three straight 12-win seasons. No doubt I trust so (McCarthy returns).”
Turpin’s appreciation to McCarthy is incomprehensible given he and Jones prepared for him to have a NFL profession. He is tied for the most joined opening shot and dropkick return scores in TCU history (six), yet he was given up from the Horned Frogs football program after aggressive behavior at home charges that were at last argued down to confused direct. In October of 2021, he was captured for misdeed attack against a similar sweetheart, and Turpin authoritatively gave a liable supplication for the charge of attack causing real injury.
He finished two years of conceded settlement probation and finished a 27-week Accomplice Misuse Mediation Program where the charges were documented in Tarrant District. The Cattle rustlers took a risk on Turpin after he procured USFL MVP honors as a wide recipient and kick returner. He was named to the Genius Bowl as a new kid on the block in 2022 thanks to averaging 24.2 yards per the opening shot return on 24 returns while positioning fifth in the whole association with 10.4 yards per dropkick return on 29 dropkicks returns. Turpin is the main Cowboys player all-time to be named to the super Bowl as an assigned returner.
Turpin stated, “Mike McCarthy, that’s my guy man.” He offered me a chance, particularly coming this year in all out attack mode end,” Turpin said Monday. I now have a lot of respect for Mike, man. Anything that he do, he got my approval.”
