Toto Wolff declares on the eve of his most recent contract, “I’m staying at Mercedes to beat Red Bull with Lewis Hamilton.”
Toto Wolff, the manager of Mercedes, declared he was sticking with the team to defeat Red Bull alongside Lewis Hamilton, demonstrating that he was up to the job. Over the past ten years, Wolff and the British driver have developed a tight relationship. Both joined the German team in 2013 and began to dominate the sport in 2014.
Neither Mercedes nor Hamilton have had a terrific season the past two years. The German team has only achieved one victory under George Russell’s leadership, despite the seven-time world champion failing to win a race in the previous two seasons. There were even doubts expressed during the conflict over Wolff’s ability to lead.
However, the Austrian has put an end to the speculations by declaring a three-year extension at Mercedes and proclaimed that he would beat Red Bull with Hamilton by his side.
I’m staying at Mercedes to beat Red Bull with Lewis Hamilton. Those who have driven in the simulator have told us that the 2024 car [W15] doesn’t look like the car of the last two years. If we give Hamilton a good car that he can rely on, he can get back in front of everyone,” Wolff was quoted as saying by La Gazzetta.
Mercedes boss backs Lewis Hamilton to win the title in the right car
Toto Wolff responded angrily when asked if Lewis Hamilton could win the championship in the appropriate car, supporting the British driver.
Wolff offered his support behind his driver, pointing out that Hamilton is still competing at a very high level and has already won seven world championships, as reported by the Telegraph.
“The answer is clearly yes in capital letters. There is a reason Lewis is a seven-time world champion, and has broken all the records… his ability is on a different level. If we are able to give him a car that he actually feels, that drives in a way that he can trust, he will be on the level that’s needed to win the championship. 39 is no age.”
Wolff will lead the team into the new rules on his present deal. However, Hamilton’s contract will expire after the 2025 Formula One season.
