BREAKING NEWS:Texas falls to UCF as Knights pull away late.
AUSTIN — Jaylin Sellers had 24 points, Shemari Allen scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half and UCF rallied from a 15-point second-half deficit to beat Texas 77-71 on Wednesday night.
UCF led 59-46 with 11 minutes and seconds left, but held Texas to just four shots the rest of the way, all of them 3-pointers.
The Knights finished the game 24-9.
Max Abmas’ 3-pointer gave Texas the final lead, 68-67, with 29 points left and 4: remaining.
Sellers and Allen then scored four points each to take a 10-3 lead at the end of the game.
Texas made just two of its last 10 shots in the final six minutes. The Longhorns shot 68 percent (17 of 25) in the first half, but that dropped to 34.5 percent (10 of 29) in the second half.
Sellers made 7 of 12 from the floor, including two 3-pointers, and made all eight of his free throws. Allen also had seven assists.
Darius Johnson added 11 points for UCF (11-5, 2-2 Big 12).
C.J.Walker and Omar Payne each contributed 10 points. Ithiel Horton scored his 20 points to lead Texas (12-5, 1-3). Abmas and Dillon Mitchell each added 15 points. Texas built a 44-32 lead at halftime and extended the lead to 55-40 on Horton’s jumper with 14:44:44:30 left. Allen scored five straight points and Sellers capped a 14-3 surge with back-to-back jumpers to give the Knights a 67-65 lead and pull away.
UCF will play No.
5 seed Houston on Saturday.
No.44 Texas, which has lost three of its past four games, hosts No.
9 Baylor on Saturday in the first of six straight games against teams ranked in the top 25. The Longhorns had previously been ranked in the Associated Press poll for 36 consecutive weeks, but fell in the rankings on Monday.
