Just in: Kirk Cousins Puts Vikings on Notice With Latest Comments About Bill Belichick
Both quarterback Kirk Cousins and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah of the Minnesota Vikings have said that they would be interested in seeing Cousins return to the team the following season. When it comes to quarterback-needy teams, Cousins is undoubtedly the best option available when he enters free agency.
However, Cousins is not ruling anything out.
Considering that head coach Bill Belichick is a free agent this offseason, he considered playing for him. When asked directly if he was willing, Cousins said candidly.
According to Cousins, “I won’t turn down an opportunity to play with a future Hall of Fame coach,” as reported by Isabel Gonzalez of CBS Sports on January 18. But we’ll have to wait and see what March brings. There are simply a lot of unknowns at this time.
Adofo-Mensah has reiterated his intention to bring Cousins back for the upcoming season. According to Spotrac, the 35-year-old passer reportedly signed for a contract worth over $28 million for the upcoming season.
Neighbors have also expressed optimism about coming back, after suffering an Achilles tear this season.
The Vikings are, nevertheless, in a salary cap bind. If they make no moves, they will have less than $30 million in cap space for the next season. But there are still a few gaps that need to be filled. Adofo-Mensah has also mentioned being willing to retrace one’s steps.
If Adofo-Mensah thinks the team won’t be near enough to compete with Cousins, then their best bet would be to make a quarterback change.
