Exclusive: DC Teryl Austin is sticking around.
The Pittsburgh Steelers coaching staff is changing, and one of the new hires is an offensive coordinator; the defensive coordinator is not one of them. Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Teryl Austin will be kept on staff. After the season, his two-year contract expired.
While the Steelers allowed less scores (19.1 per game) in 2023 than they did in 2022, they gave up more passing (227.1) and rushing (115.1) yards per game.
The defense lost many important starters to injury: Cole Holcomb and Kwon Alexander missed a total of 17 games, while Cam Heyward and Minkah Fitzpatrick missed a combined 13.
