Following in the footsteps of fellow European star Jon Rahm ahead of the 2024 season.
Adrian Meronk has prioritised a mega-money move to LIV Golf over his first full debut season on the PGA Tour, with the Polish star set to become the next big name joining the breakaway league.
On Wednesday a report from The Times claimed Meronk had finalised a deal to join the LIV setup, with their opening event of the season in Mexico just one week away.
The Pole’s name has one that had been linked to the Saudi-backed league during the off-season, and it appears he is now ready to make the switch.
The decision to make the move comes at a huge moment in Meronk’s career, after the big-hitting European secured playing rights on the PGA Tour for the very first time for 2024.
Meronk was one of 10 DP World Tour players who earned their card on the sport’s leading circuit, after an impressive campaign in 2023.
However it appears the pull of a lucrative contract with the LIV setup is stronger than a spot on the Tour for the season.
The Polish national appeared to have put rumours he was joining LIV Golf to bed last month, after announcing in December he would be committing to the PGA Tour for 2024, confirming on Instagram that he was ‘excited for the next chapter’.
Seven weeks on though it appears Meronk’s playing rights on the Tour will be banished when a move to LIV is officially completed.
Despite earning his card on the American circuit for 2024, Meronk has opted to begin his year on the DP World Tour in January.
The European kicked off his season at the Dubai Invitational earlier this month, where he landed a top-10 finish.
He then competed in last week’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic, and came within a whisker of walking away as champion, after finishing a shot behind eventual winner Rory McIlroy in second.
A day prior to the opening Rolex Series event of the year, Meronk was handed the Seve Ballesteros Award at Emirates Golf Club, the DP World Tour’s 2023 Players’ Player of The Year title.
After starting his year in the Middle East, he was set to make his first PGA Tour appearance at this week’s Farmers Insurance Open.
His plans however have been scuppered, with the Polish star pulling out of the event just hours before news broke of his proposed LIV move.
Taking to social media, Meronk claimed on Wednesday morning that he been forced to miss the tournament in San Diego due to illness.
