Exclusive: Cavs Are Reportedly Sending A Clear Message About Donovan Mitchell
Against all odds, the Cleveland Cavaliers are currently the fourth best team in the Eastern Conference, at least on paper.
The team was down two starters for most of the season. Evan Mobley is nursing an injured knee and Darius Garland is coming back from a broken collarbone. However, Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen held down the fort and the rest of the assistant contributed greatly for Team JB. Bickerstaff.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise that the Cavs have informed every team around the league that Mitchell is not available for trade talks, according to Hoops Hype’s Michael Scotto (via Legion Hoops ). Mitchell had not yet committed to a contract extension with the Cavaliers and was a potential trade candidate in the offseason, as some believed he had no interest in signing.
But even if that’s true, there’s no reason for the Cavs to trade him given the way they’re playing him. The Cavs could wait until the offseason to negotiate a trade for the former Utah Jazz guard if they believe he really wants to leave.
Meanwhile, the Cavaliers could be buyers with Garland’s return imminent and Mobley knowing he will be back at some point in the season, allowing them to look for more reinforcements before the trade deadline.
