Pittsburgh Steelers Trade Proposal Sees Team Move Into 2024 Draft’s Top 10
Pittsburgh Steelers fans are hoping for a big move after a playoff winless year.
The most talked about move by the Steelers is bringing in a veteran quarterback to improve the offense. Bleacher Report’s NFL scouting department had a different suggestion for the Steelers.
In an article discussing potential trade targets for every team in the league, they suggested the Steelers consider making a big move in the draft. The deal would see the Steelers give up picks 20 and 51 in the 2024 NFL Draft and a third-round pick in 2025 to the New York Jets with the 10th overall pick.
In its proposal, Bleacher Report uses the Steelers to select LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels. While this selection is unlikely due to the team’s needs still facing the Steelers and Art Rooney’s year-end comments regarding the QB position, there are other options that could make this move worthwhile for Pittsburgh.
10 goals to choose from
If the Steelers move up to the 10th pick, quarterback might not be the answer, but there are a few scenarios where making a move makes sense. The first is when one of the top two offensive tackles in the draft goes down.
Pittsburgh is expected to consider the 20th pick, but there are two elite options in the draft. Joe Alt and Olumuyiwa Fashanu are the top two options at the position and both are projected to go in the top 10 of the draft.
If the Steelers have the best prospect to protect their quarterback, it might be worth investing the extra draft capital to do so. In another scenario, the Steelers believe they have a clear top option at cornerback.
Now in the shadow of rival WR1 Joey Porter Jr., an elite option coming off a strong rookie season could help them become one of the best defenses in football again. If the Steelers don’t fall into one of those two situations, they’ll have to sit back and wait for the 20th pick to fill one of the team’s needs.
The Steelers have plenty of opportunities.
Although the Steelers will have the 20th pick in the draft, there are a variety of directions they could go with the pick. Various mock drafts include Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr. and J.J. McCarthy at quarterback.
Pairing Amarius Mims with former Georgia teammate Broderick Jones has become a very popular option. It also connects to almost every corner where the first circular projection is.
Quarterback would be a bit more attractive if the Steelers didn’t trade up to get one, but the other two positions seem like positions the team should really focus on. The 2024 class is deep at cornerback, so the Steelers should be able to find one of the flavors, if not the best in the class.
The Steelers have a big decision to make in this year’s draft, but at least they know they have plenty of viable options going into the first round.
